Obviously, every country has its weird quirks. Germany including! From beer in Mcdonald’s, over a sausage vending machine, has it all. Living in Germany for more than 15 Years, here are the funniest, weirdest, craziest things I have encountered (or heard of) in Germany:
beer in Mc donalds
I know this is a favorite among my American friends. While it’s not a secret that Germans are a easygoing about selling Alcohol, you would not expect they would sell beer in the same place as Happy meals.
Stores with super-duper German Names
Fussbodenschleifmaschinenverleih – only in Germany we have words / shops named as such pic.twitter.com/efKDTU2N

I challenge you to find a Store with a longer name 😀 Now you might be asking yourself What this Fussbodenscheifmaschienenverleih sells. Quite easy! It’s a store that rents out machines to grind your wooden floor.
When we say we have a word for everything, we mean it!
No speed limit
While the lack of speed limits on the German Autobahn (Interstate) is neither weird nor exotic, it is a truly unique feature to Germany. The feeling you get when getting easily overpassed at 200kph (125mph) is just undescribable.

Germans love beer – no secret. Germans love Bread – no secret either. So the ingenious German man, trying to combine his two passions, could not just eat breakfast while eating Beer. Simply because there is the unwritten rule “Kein Bier vor vier” (No Beer before 4pm). So, he created jelly made of real beer and it tastes great!
A hanging city train
Germans love their engineers and German engineers are in love with over engineering. Just like Porsche isn’t satisfied with ‘just building a car’ the Wuppertaler (people from Wuppertal) went above and beyond, building their new city train. Today this overhead railway is over 100 years old and still fully functional.
Sausage Vending Machine

As we are hitting one stereotype after another, why not mention sausages as well.
This one has been a personal mystery for a long time. Mercedes’ are great! Mercedes’ are expensive! But, somehow cab drivers can afford it. Most cab cars are Mercedes. And till 5-10 years ago, Mercedes even had a cab monopole (roughly 70%).
Well, as economist like to say: there is no product without a market. So there appears to be people who like beer smelling hair. Weird but funny? YES!
A 3 Station Long Subway
Ever heard of a 3 station long subway? No? Then go to Berlin. The Berliner, which are terrible at managing money, decided to buila a 1,7km (1 mile) long subway. The U55 connects Central station, the Bundestag and the Brandenburg Gate. The funniest part is not that is propably shortest and least used subway line (Only one train is operating due to lack of use). No, it is the cost. The Berliner taxpayer payed about 320 Million Euros ($350mil.) and therefore 180.000 per meter ($4900 per inch). Thats just ridiculous.
What weird things have you encountered in Germany? I want to know it!
